The Backpack Project to Distribute Backpacks to Lambert House

Seattle, Washington, January 14 2009 — The Backpack Project and their sponsor TeamWorks International are providing fifteen backpacks this month to Seattle’s Lambert House for youth who are in crisis. The Lambert House is a center for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning youth that encourages empowerment through the development of leadership, social and life skills. The Backpack Project’s mission is to provide both basic necessities and services to all youth who are in transition. This year, they choose The Lambert House because of their proven success in the community.

The Backpack Project works with youth community providers that offer services for homeless and transitional youth. The instantaneous purpose of the Backpack Project is to offer youth an incentive to participate with social service providers, who can assist them in improving their situation. Through fund-raisers and donation drives, this organization provides these providers with backpacks stuffed full of essential items for survival. A youth can then receive the backpack when participating in services.

Items in the backpacks include journals, pens, paints, folders, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, deoderant, shampoo/conditioner, bottled water, granola bars and more.

“I’m happy to announce that this was a great success,” says Thomas Guenther, Board Chair, “not only did we spend $95.00 under budget, but we were also able to get more then we originally planned. We now have enough backpacks and stuffers to donate fifeteen backpacks to the Lambert House.” He adds, “It’s a small donation, but an important one that fifeteen struggling homeless youth will benefit from greatly.” For more information on the project, contact Thomas Guenther at thomasleeguenther@thebackpackproject.org.

The Backpack Project stemmed from ACTION Northwest and is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization sponsored by TeamWorks International.
