What the Site is for

The Site shares information about our mission, chapters, events (including Homeless Heroes Day), volunteering, partnerships, and ways to donate. Content is for general information. It is not legal, tax, medical, or financial advice.

Impact figures, event goals, and historical counts on the Site are good-faith summaries. They may be rounded or updated as records improve.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Site for any unlawful purpose.
  • Attempt to break, scrape aggressively, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the Site or related systems.
  • Submit false, misleading, or harmful content through forms or email.
  • Impersonate TBP, our leaders, or another person.
  • Harvest emails or personal data from the Site for spam or sale.
  • Upload malware or interfere with other users.

We may suspend or block access that we reasonably believe violates these Terms.

Donations

Online gifts are processed through GiveButter (or another processor we designate). By donating, you also agree to that processor’s terms. Donations are generally voluntary gifts to support our charitable purposes. Unless we expressly say otherwise for a restricted campaign, we may allocate gifts where needed most, including national programs and Live chapters.

In-kind / supply donations must be arranged in advance via info@thebackpackproject.org. Do not leave unsolicited drop-offs without confirmation.

We do not provide tax advice. Keep your receipt; deductibility depends on your situation and applicable law. Our EIN is 47-4511944.

Events, volunteering, and chapters

Signing up for Homeless Heroes Day, campus packing, delivery, or chapter activities may involve separate waivers, venue rules, or partner policies. Those additional terms apply when provided.

Volunteering is at your own risk to the extent allowed by law. Follow safety instructions from TBP leads, venues, and delivery partners. We may cancel or change events for weather, safety, supply, or operational reasons.

Chapter pages describe student-led activity. “Live” and “Starting” status can change; contact info@thebackpackproject.org for current chapter status.

Intellectual property

Unless noted otherwise, Site text, graphics, logos, and layout are owned by TBP or used with permission. The Backpack Project name and logo are our trademarks/service marks.

You may share links to the Site and use brief quotations for news or educational purposes with attribution. You may not copy the Site wholesale, use our logo to imply endorsement without written permission, or sell our materials.

Partner logos appear for identification of past or planned collaboration and do not imply ongoing endorsement unless stated.

User submissions

If you send ideas, photos, resumes, or other materials through the Site or email, you grant TBP a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use them for nonprofit operations (for example, reviewing a volunteer application or posting an approved event photo). Do not send confidential information you are not authorized to share.

If you submit photos for public use, you confirm you have rights to share them and that people who can be identified (other than incidental background) have consented where required. We prefer packing and delivery scenes without close-ups of clients.

Third-party links and embeds

The Site may link to or embed third parties (GiveButter, Instagram, Google Maps, partner nonprofits). We do not control those services and are not responsible for their content, availability, or policies.

Disclaimers

THE SITE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TBP DISCLAIMS WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TBP AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, VOLUNTEERS, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS OR DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SITE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF THE SITE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US $100) OR THE AMOUNT YOU DONATED THROUGH THE SITE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, WHICHEVER IS GREATER, IF APPLICABLE LAW ALLOWS THAT CAP.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those places, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted.

Indemnity

You agree to defend and indemnify TBP and its leaders and volunteers against claims arising from your misuse of the Site or your violation of these Terms, to the extent allowed by law.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Exclusive venue for disputes arising from the Site, to the extent permitted by law, lies in state or federal courts located in Georgia, unless a mandatory consumer protection law says otherwise.

Changes

We may revise these Terms by posting an updated version on the Site with a new “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
